Carrie Vecchione, Oboe

Carrie Vecchione, oboe, performs in the Twin Cities and around the country in orchestras, as a chamber musician, and as a soloist. She is a substitute with the Minnesota Orchestra and Minnesota Opera. She has been Principal Oboe for the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Muncie Symphony, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Baton Rouge Opera. She has premiered, among other works, Rondo Buffo - the first ever double concerto for oboe and bass by Timothy Goplerud, the Concerto for English horn by Timothy Goplerud, and Transformations for Oboe and String Orchestra by Dinos Constantinides. She performs at many national conferences and has soloed in the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall. Carrie has been recorded as soloist in music by Dinos Constantinides, in chamber music by Jay Weigel, and as a member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. She can also be heard on various Disney on Ice and Hal Leonard productions and been broadcast on Indiana Public Radio and Minnesota Public Radio. She frequently performs with her husband, Rolf Erdahl. The Vecchione/Erdahl Duo is an oboe/bass ensemble dedicated to creating and promoting works for their group. Minnesota Public Radio called them "pioneers" in a radio interview. They can be heard on their debut cd "It Takes Two . . ." produced by Centaur Records and available on iTunes and other places. Vecchione and Erdahl also present educational programs in the schools as "Pages of Music with Rolf and Carrie". They link chlidren's literature with music in an engaging and enjoyable series of programs. Carrie and Rolf are Roster Artists for Young Audiences of Minnesota and Minnesota State Arts Board and are Classical Partners with the St Paul Chamber Orchestra's CONNECT program. Carrie has taught at St. Olaf College and Ball State University, at the Sewanee Summer Music Center in Tennessee and the International Music Camp at the International Peace Gardens between North Dakota and Manitoba. She has been an adjudicator and clinician on both the local and national levels. She received Doctoral and Bachelor degrees from Louisiana State University, and her Master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Her teachers have included Joseph Robinson, Earnest Harrison and Mark Ostoich.
