Alexandra Sapan has been teaching voice in MacPhail’s Individual Instruction department since 2017. Prior to MacPhail, Alexandra was an Adjunct Professor of Voice at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and has maintained private vocal studios in New York, Cedar Rapids and Minneapolis since 2009.
Alexandra believes that nothing is more powerful than the singing voice, which can communicate and touch people at an emotional and spiritual level. Musical study has a healing and grounding power in life and she enjoys teaching all ages and levels of students, igniting their own creativity and passions for the art form.
Her notable performances include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at Orlando Opera and The Beijing Music Festival, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at Taconic Opera, Mdms. Silberklang in The Impresario at Opera Florham, Papagena from Die Zauberflöte at Macau International Music Festival, Amina from Bellini’s La sonnambula at Calvià Opera in Mallorca and scenes from La Traviata at Opera Hong Kong’s Inauguration Gala.
In 2004, she debuted at Carnegie Hall with pianist Maestra Enza Ferrari after winning first place in the Classical Productions Competition. She was the first place winner in the Heinz Rehfuss Singing Actor Awards at Orlando Opera and a scholarship recipient from The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship Fund, and participated in The Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna. Alexandra recently received an Artist Development Grant scholarship from MacPhail Center for Music and is currently working on a cycle of newly composed Greek songs to be performed and recorded in 2021 with pianist and composer Dr. Jonathan Tauscheck.
Alexandra received her Master of Music Degree from Manhattan School of Music in Vocal Performance, Bachelor of Music from Wheaton Conservatory of Music, with extended studies in Italy at the Ezio Pinza Council for American Singers of Opera, The International Institute of Vocal Arts in Italy, and Aspen Music Festival.
Favorite non-musical hobby: I play singles and doubles tennis in a USTA league in Minnetonka.
