Heather VanderLey teaches violin in the Suzuki program. An instructor at MacPhail since 2005, she has been teaching for over twenty years. Her students range in age three years and up. Heather’s teaching is focused on developing the ‘whole’ child, not just specific skills with an instrument. Her musical goal is to lead her students to a place where they experience the joy of making music and expressing themselves through music. She respects each student’s unique characteristics, allowing these experiences to lead the tone and the pace of the lessons, with an end result of the student’s confidence in their playing ability.
Heather is also a freelance violinist in the Twin Cities area and a long time member of the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis.
She has a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton College and a Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota. She completed her Suzuki Pedagogy training at the University of Minnesota.
