Susan M. Radloff has taught double bass/string bass, cello, fiddle, viola and violin in MacPhail—Austin’s Individual and Group Instruction and summer camp programs since 2015. Her teaching experience includes teaching in a private studio for over fifty years. She has also taught in public schools in Wisconsin, Iowa and Pacelli Catholic School and Austin Public Schools. She taught in a Suzuki violin studio for six years.
Susan firmly believes that all students have an inherent musical ability which can be brought out with patient, planned teaching. She strives to find the center and scope of that ability and nurture it to the best of her ability. She has taught every age of student, from four year olds through retirement age.
She has been a member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra for 52 years, serving as concertmaster for 32 years. She was a member of the Rochester, Minnesota Symphony Orchestra of 47 years, serving as principal viola for seven years and principal second violin for thirty years. She also played in the Winona Symphony, the Mankato Symphony and the La Crosse, Wisconsin Orchestra. Susan is a in a family trio called Stringendo, consisting of herself and her two string-playing daughters, performing at weddings and receptions.
A 1962 graduate of Pacelli High School, Susan holds a Bachelor of Science from Mankato State College in Music Education, with minors in string teaching and English. She has also taken numerous masters level courses.
