Tom Austin, cello instructor at MacPhail, has been an active teacher in the Twin Cities since 1997.
Tom was director and faculty member of Stringworks in Minneapolis for 11 years, director and faculty member of School for Strings in Minneapolis for 12 years, and was the director of the Strings Program at the City of Lakes Waldorf School in Minneapolis for 5 years.
He has performed with the Springfield Symphony, was assistant principal cellist for the Chamber Orchestra of New England, New Haven, Conn., and was the assistant principal cellist for the Liceo Opera Orchestra, Barcelona, Spain. Locally, he has performed with the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra and the Arius Chamber Ensemble.
Tom attended Trinity College in London, studied privately with Prof. George Neikrug in Boston, and attended the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
