Minneapolis Building Closure Updates
MacPhail’s Minneapolis building is temporarily closed while necessary HVAC remediation work is completed.
Fall programming will continue with temporary adjustments while the building is unavailable. Depending on the program, lessons, classes, ensembles, and other activities may temporarily move to alternate locations or take place online.
This page is the central source for building updates, program information, and relocation resources throughout the closure. We’ll continue to add information as plans are confirmed.

Program & Relocation Information
As temporary plans are finalized, we’ll post program-specific information and resources here. You do not need to find an alternate location or make arrangements on your own. MacPhail will contact affected students and families directly.
Individual Lessons
Minneapolis individual lessons will temporarily take place online while lesson studios are unavailable. Limited in-person exceptions at alternative locations may be available on a case-by-case basis. Faculty will contact students directly with Zoom links and any individualized instructions. We’ll share additional information soon about returning to in-person lessons as the phased reopening progresses.

Sing Play Learn
Minneapolis Sing Play Learn classes will temporarily relocate to Westminster Presbyterian Church in downtown Minneapolis while our Minneapolis building is unavailable. Free parking is available in Westminster’s underground parking ramp (address 95-99 Alice Rainville Pl). Take the garage elevator to the 2nd floor and turn left. Walk down the hall and turn right. Look for a MacPhail greeter in the Early Childhood wing to help you find your classroom.
All classes will continue on their currently scheduled days and times.
Suzuki
Suzuki activities already scheduled at DeLaSalle and other offsite locations will continue as planned. Minneapolis-based Suzuki activities will temporarily relocate or shift online while the building is unavailable. More information is coming soon, and affected students and families will be contacted directly as details are confirmed.
Music Therapy
Minneapolis Music Therapy sessions will temporarily relocate while the building is unavailable.
Music Therapy Client Sessions
All music therapy client sessions will take place at the Depot Office Center (500 Washington Ave) on the 1st Floor, Suite 1080. This location is adjacent to the MacPhail Minneapolis building. View entrance directions with photos (PDF).
Parking available in the Portland Avenue ramp and on the street. Enter through the main entrance at 500 Washington Ave or through the Portland Ave Ramp entrance on the main floor.
Music For Life
Minneapolis Music for Life classes and ensembles will temporarily relocate while the building is unavailable.
Voice Classes
All MMFL Voice classes (MMFL Voice Class 1, MMFL Voice Class 2, Sightreading for Singers) will take place at the Guthrie Theater (818 S 2nd Street).
Parking is available in adjacent ramps and street parking. Classes will take place in the 8th floor educational space. Please look for the MacPhail greeter in the main lobby.
Connecting Voices Choir
Connecting Voices rehearsals will temporary take place at Abiitan Mill City (428 S 2nd Street).
Adjacent ramps and street parking are available.
Voices of Experience
Voices of Experience rehearsals will temporarily take place at Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church (7600 Harold Ave) in Golden Valley.

Here are some answers to common questions:
When will the Minneapolis building reopen?
The Minneapolis building remains temporarily closed while remediation work is completed. Work will take place in phases, beginning with the building’s main supply lines and then moving from the upper floors downward. Our current goal is to reopen floors 4, 5, and 6 in early October, which would allow the majority of individual lessons to resume in person. This is an estimated timeline and may change as work progresses. We’ll continue to share updates as the reopening timeline is confirmed.
What is the issue with the building?
During the HVAC replacement project, MacPhail learned that a type of common outdoor mold was identified within portions of the building’s ductwork and requires remediation. We have been working with environmental experts to assess the issue and determine the appropriate next steps. Testing results are reassuring, and we are continuing with the recommended remediation.
Is there a health or safety concern?
Testing results are reassuring; overall airborne mold levels in the sampled areas were below outdoor levels, and the predominant mold identified is a common outdoor type. MacPhail is completing the recommended remediation, and air quality will be tested again before spaces are cleared for use.
How will I be contacted about changes to my program?
Students and families affected by a temporary location, schedule, or format change will be contacted directly by email from MacPhail, their Program Leader, or faculty member as details are confirmed. You do not need to make alternate arrangements on your own.
Will Apple Valley, Chanhassen, and offsite programming continue?
Yes. Programming at MacPhail’s Apple Valley and Chanhassen locations and other offsite spaces will continue as planned unless you are contacted directly about a change

Do I need special equipment?
Only an internet connected device with a camera and microphone, though some additional items like plug-in headphones may be helpful. MacPhail will provide an Online Lesson Guide with more information.
