Minneapolis Building Update

MacPhail Center for Music’s Minneapolis building will remain temporarily closed due to construction. Fall programming is moving forward, with temporary adjustments for programs based in Minneapolis.

The Minneapolis building initially closed in August for planned HVAC work. During that work, an additional issue was identified that requires remediation before affected areas of the building can reopen.

Testing identified the presence of common, outdoor mold in portions of the building’s ductwork. Indoor air quality was consistent with outdoor air. MacPhail is working with professional partners to complete the necessary remediation and will conduct clearance testing before affected spaces reopen.

While this work is underway, MacPhail is committed to keeping students learning and making music with as little disruption as possible.

Individual lessons based in Minneapolis will temporarily take place online, with limited exceptions. Classes, ensembles, Music Therapy, and other programs are being temporarily relocated. Students and families will receive specific information directly from their teachers or program leaders.

MacPhail’s Apple Valley and Chanhassen locations and programs at partner and community sites are not affected and will continue as scheduled.

Remediation work is underway, and we anticipate reopening the Minneapolis building in phases as spaces are completed and cleared for use. We will share additional information about reopening timing as it is confirmed.

We appreciate the flexibility and understanding of our students, families, faculty, and community as we complete this work thoroughly and responsibly. We look forward to welcoming our community back to the Minneapolis building as soon as we can.
