Minneapolis Building Update

MacPhail Center for Music’s Minneapolis building will remain temporarily closed due to construction. Fall programming is moving forward, with temporary adjustments for programs based in Minneapolis.

The Minneapolis building initially closed in August for planned HVAC work. During that work, an additional issue was identified that requires remediation before affected areas of the building can reopen.

Testing identified the presence of common, outdoor mold in portions of the building’s ductwork. Indoor air quality was consistent with outdoor air. MacPhail is working with professional partners to complete the necessary remediation and will conduct clearance testing before affected spaces reopen.

While this work is underway, MacPhail is committed to keeping students learning and making music with as little disruption as possible.

Individual lessons based in Minneapolis will temporarily take place online, with limited exceptions. Classes, ensembles, Music Therapy, and other programs are being temporarily relocated. Students and families will receive specific information directly from their teachers or program leaders.

MacPhail’s Apple Valley and Chanhassen locations and programs at partner and community sites are not affected and will continue as scheduled.

Remediation work has progressed well and reached several major milestones, including the replacement of the HVAC units serving Antonello Hall. Work has moved ahead of schedule, making it possible to reopen the full building sooner than originally anticipated.

We are now planning to reopen all floors of the Minneapolis building on Monday, October 19.

As with any project of this scope, there is always the potential for unexpected conditions or delays. We will continue to monitor progress closely and share any changes as soon as possible.

Program Leaders and faculty will contact impacted students and families directly with information about what the reopening means for individual lessons, classes, ensembles, and other programs. Until then, students should continue with their current temporary arrangements.
