Andrea Glass is a dedicated Suzuki Cello instructor based in Minneapolis, MN. She holds a Bachelor of Music from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Music from the University of Northern Colorado. Andrea has completed comprehensive long-term Suzuki training with Carol Tarr for cello and Units 1-4 for violin with James Maurer at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. A recipient of the SAA Certificate of Achievement, Andrea is committed to excellence in pedagogy and lifelong learning. She has also completed the Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) course, reinforcing a teaching philosophy centered on the belief that every child can develop high-level ability through a nurturing environment.
Andrea has taught Suzuki group classes with Longmont Suzuki Strings and Denver Talent Education. She also teaches at Colorado Suzuki Institute in Beaver Creek, CO. She has been a judge for Solo and Ensemble Contest of Northern Colorado, and chamber music coach for CelloFest at the University of Denver. Andrea has been an active recitalist and teacher in the music community of Colorado, and has been a member of the Fort Collins, Greeley, and Cheyenne Symphonies. She has played in master classes with David Ying, Janos Starker, and Yo-Yo Ma. She was also a studio musician at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, and has played with over twenty bands such as Rise Against, Drive By, Melissa Ivey, and Tickle Me Pink. She has recorded for Wind Up Records and Warner Bros.
In 2009, Andrea accepted the Suzuki cello faculty position at Macphail Center for Music in Minneapolis, MN. She is a former president of the Suzuki Association of Minnesota and committee chair for the annual S.A.M. Statewide Graduation Recitals. She is the founder and instructor for Cello Rock at MacPhail, a 12 member cello ensemble that performs rock music. Andrea also performs with Minneapolis-based Nirvana tribute band, NIVRANA. In addition to teaching standard cello repertoire, encourages her students to explore non-classical music genres
Andrea blends rigorous technical instruction with the core Suzuki mission of character development, fostering a supportive community for students and their families.
