Sing pop hits, indie favorites, and contemporary music while learning harmonies, vocal percussion, and the techniques that create the sound of a full band—using only your voices.

What Is Harmonix?
Harmonix is a contemporary a cappella ensemble where young singers explore today’s music while building musicianship, confidence, and community. Together, students create rich harmonies, rhythms, and the sound of a full band—using only their voices.
Whether you’re an experienced choir singer or simply love to sing, Harmonix is a place to grow, perform, and make music with others who share your passion.

Meet the Director
Katherine Bodor
Composer, arranger, vocalist, and MacPhail alum Katherine Bodor brings a unique blend of artistry, creativity, and teaching experience to Harmonix.
As a professional a cappella arranger, Katherine has created music for high school and collegiate ensembles and brings a deep understanding of contemporary vocal music. She first discovered her love of singing through choir and student-led a cappella before earning degrees in music composition and engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and a master’s degree in composition from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
A former MacPhail piano student herself, Katherine is passionate about helping young singers discover their own musical voice while experiencing the joy of creating something together.

Is Financial Aid available?

Do I need previous a cappella experience?
No previous a cappella experience is required! Students should, however, be comfortable matching pitch accurately and singing independently. If you can confidently sing along with the lead vocal in your favorite pop song, you’re likely ready for Harmonix.
What kind of music will we sing?
Students will explore contemporary repertoire inspired by pop, indie, and today’s vocal groups through specially selected and arranged music.
Do I need to know how to read music?
Not necessarily. Students will develop musicianship throughout the semester, and learning happens together in rehearsal.
Can I participate if I'm already in my school choir?
Absolutely. Harmonix complements school music programs by giving students the opportunity to explore a different style of singing and repertoire.
Will there be performance opportunities?
Yes! The ensemble will work toward opportunities to perform as students build repertoire, ensemble skills, and confidence on stage. Performance opportunities will depend on the group’s progress throughout the semester.
